Sunrise Airlines BK-117 Occurrence
On October 16, 2013, a BK-117 helicopter with registration number B-77009 operated by Sunrise Airlines departed from Sunshan Airport at 0628 to Yushan North Peak Weather Station performing routine logistic flights. The first round mission of transporting the weather station personnel started at 0742 and completed at 0753. While executing the second round mission, the helicopter was crashed at a location approximately 30 minutes walking distance from the Weather Station ramp at 0805. Of the 3 people on board the helicopter, captain, first officer, and weather station personnel, all died as a result of the occurrence.
The ASC launched an on-scene team immediately after receiving the notification. The team is composed of five persons, three are ASC’s investigators, the other two are from Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA), Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Sunrise Airlines as party members. The on-scene team plans heading to the crash site today for initial inspection of the helicopter wreckages, site-survey and removing the cockpit voice recorder from the helicopter.
