Mandarin Airlines Flight AE 964 Occurrence Initial Report

On September 20, 2014, Mandarin Airlines passenger flight AE 964, an ERJ-190 registration number B-16821, at 18:52 Taipei local time, took off from Zhengzhou Airport for Taichung Airport. At 21:29, the aircraft veer off runway 36 temporarily during landing and damaged one runway edge light and one signboard. Maintenance inspection found the number 2 engine cowling and the right main wheel tires were damaged. All 6 crew members and 74 passengers on board were safe.

Aviation Safety Council (ASC) immediately launched an on-scene team to Taichung airport after receiving the notification. The on-scene team removed cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from the aircraft; completed flight crew interview, ATC data collection, the team also conducted veer off track mapping, runway pavement inspection, aircraft tire mark measurement, engine damage inspection, system test and data collection. ASC has determined the event is an aviation occurrence defined by the “Aviation Occurrence Act”. The Investigator-In-Charge and a team has been assigned to this investigation.
