Mandarin Airlines Flight AE 788 Occurrence Initial Report

On August 22, 2018, Mandarin Airlines passenger flight AE 788, an ATR72-600 aircraft, national registration number B-16852, took off from Magong Airport for Taichung Airport. At 19:30, the aircraft hit runway edge light during landing on runway 36 and caused damage to the aircraft. Two flight crew members, 2 cabin crew members and 70 passengers, totally 74 persons on board the aircraft were all safe.

After receiving the notification, the Aviation Safety Council (ASC) immediately launched an on-scene team heading to Taichung Airport. The on-scene team performed evidence collections, finished initial flight crew and air traffic controller interviews, and carried back Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder. In accordance with the Aviation Occurrence Investigation Act and referencing to ICAO Annex 13, the ASC identified this event was an aviation occurrence. The Investigator-In-Charge and investigation team were assigned to proceed the occurrence investigation.
