The Preliminary Occurrence Report of TRA’s Train No.125 at Chiayi Station

On June 25, 2020, Train No.125, Express Train of Taiwan Railways Administration, MOTC (TRA) departed from Changhua Station at 1547, and the destination was Ping Tung. After departure, the station staff notified the driver that the rear locomotive E1038 had an abnormal sound and burnt smell. The driver tried to operate an emergency brake and release it while arriving at Yuanlin Station, then isolated the bogies at Douliu Station. When arriving at Chiayi station, a large amount of smoke came out from the rear locomotive. After spraying with the dry powder fire extinguisher, the smoke dissipated. There were no casualties in the accident.

After receiving the notification, Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) immediately dispatched two investigators with the people of Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) heading to the scene performing evidence collections, conducting personnel interviews as well as collecting relevant information. TTSB identified that this event was a railway occurrence following the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
