Since its establishment, the association has investigated various waterway accidents that caused deaths of crew member after they fell into the sea due to their noncompliance with the appropriate preventive measures or not wearing a life jacket during deck operations at sea. In response to this, the association has proposed a recommendation for transportation safety improvement.

To prevent similar accidents recurring to crew members during their at-sea operations in the future, the association has worked with the Fisheries Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan to create a flyer for the subject matter; the flyer will be sent to all fishing harbors and inspection offices to communicate the necessity for crew members to wear a life jacket during their operations on fishing vessels.

The format and content of the flyer is as follows:

  1. Over the past 5 years, 114 crew members have died from not wearing a life jacket and falling into the sea.
  2.  The potential influences of crew member deaths caused by falling into the sea.
  3. Types of life jacket.
