At about 05:15, May 09, 2023, Train No. 3121 of the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) bumped into a rail trolley that belongs to a contractor of the Central Engineering Department of the Railway Bureau, MOTC on the track at K299+722 between Chiayi Station and Nanjing Station. There were no fatalities or injuries in this occurrence.

After the occurrence, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) dispatched three investigators with the Railway Bureau, MOTC, and the TRA, personnel heading to the scene to perform evidence collection, conduct personnel interviews, and collect relevant information. The TTSB identified that the event was a railway occurrence in accordance with the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
