The Initial Press Release of an Electric Vehicle Collision with Guardrail and Fire Occurrence at Huwei Section of National Highway No. 1

At 21:12 June 6, 2024, an electric vehicle (Tesla) on National Highway No. 1, southbound at the 237.5 km Huwei section, crashed through the outside guardrail, fell to the ground and then catching fire. One occupant died and two occupants sustained injuries in this occurrence.

The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) received the notification and dispatched an On-Scene team to the scene to perform a vehicle inspection and collect relevant information. TTSB identified that this event was a major highway occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and the Scope of Major Transportation Occurrence Paragraph 4, Subsection 3, and continued to collect relevant evidence and conduct follow-up investigations.
