The Initial Report of An Electric Vehicle Ran Off the Road and Caught Fire After Crashing on the Southbound Exit Ramp to the Yangmei Rest Area on National Highway No. 1.

On January 25, 2025, at 19:25, an electric vehicle belonging to Sunshine-Lease Car Rental Co., Ltd. collided with a crash attenuator in the gore area on the southbound exit ramp to the Yangmei Rest Area on National Highway No. 1 and caught fire. Four occupants were killed, and four others were injured in the incident.

After receiving the notification, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) immediately dispatched 3 investigators to the field to gather information in accordance with the procedures for investigating highway occurrences. This event was identified as a highway occurrence in accordance with the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and the Scope of Major Transportation Occurrence by the TTSB. An official investigation has been launched and the investigation team will continue to gather relevant evidence.
