The Initial Press Release of “1140519 Crew Member Missing During Operations of YU YOU Fishing Vessel in the Southern Indian Ocean”
At 07:24 local time on May 19, 2025, the Kaohsiung-registered fishing vessel "YU YOU" (Fishing Vessel Registration Number: CT6-1501 , International Call Sign: BH3501, MMSI: 416005570) became entangled with a foreign object in its propeller while operating in high seas of the southern Indian Ocean. One crew member went missing during an underwater operation to remove the obstruction. After conducting a 72-hour search in the area where the incident occurred without success, the search operation was terminated.
The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) classified the event as a major marine occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and referenced the Casualty Investigation Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned, and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
