The Initial Press Release of the Bulk Carrier “PACIFIC CENTURY” made contact with the wharf when unberthing at Kaohsiung Port
On 9th June 2025, at about 19:13 local time, the Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier, “PACIFIC CENTURY” (IMO No. 9568902), with a gross tonnage of 94955, made contact with No.89 and No. 90 wharves when unberthing at Kaohsiung Port. The occurrence caused damage to the rudder of the “PACIFIC CENTURY” and the wharves. Additionally, it caused the sinking of the working boat “CSBC No.8” berthed at No. 89 wharf, due to the propeller wash of “PACIFIC CENTURY”.
The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) classified the event as a major marine occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and referenced the Casualty Investigation Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned, and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
