The Initial Press Release of UPS Airlines Flight 5X61 an engine strike during landing at Taoyuan International Airport
On August 13, 2025, a UPS Airlines Boeing 747-8 freighter, registration N613UP, operating as flight 5X61 from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), had three flight crew members onboard. At 2009 Taipei local time, during landing on Runway 05L at TPE, the aircraft sustained a No. 4 engine pod strike, which resulted in damage to the No. 4 engine, as well as multiple areas of the right wing and fuselage. No injuries were reported.
After receiving the notification, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) immediately dispatched investigators to the scene to collect information in accordance with aviation occurrence investigation procedures. The TTSB has determined that this event constitutes a major aviation occurrence under the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. An official investigation has been initiated, and the investigation team will continue to gather relevant evidence.
