The Initial Press Release of the Derailment of TRC’s Train No.423 between Shanli Station and Luye Station
On September 24, 2025, the New Tze-Chiang Express Train No. 423 of Taiwan Railway Corporation, Ltd. (TRC) departed from Xinzuoying Station in Kaohsiung City and bound for Shulin Station in New Taipei City. At 13:33, the train struck a rockfall on the track between Shanli Station and Luye Station in Taitung County, causing the derailment of the first and second axles of the first car. There were no casualties in this occurrence.
After receiving the notification, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) dispatched 2 investigators accompanied with the staff of Railway Bureau, MOTC and TRC heading to the scene to collect evidence and relevant information. The TTSB identified this event as a railway occurrence following the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
