The Initial Press Release of Fishing Vessel "An Feng No. 138" Involved in a Seafarer Fatality in the South Atlantic
On February 7th, 2026, at approximately 2330 hours (Taiwan time), the Taiwan-flagged fishing vessel "An Feng No. 138" Registration No. CT8-0200, IMO No. 9797307, with a gross tonnage of 1,210, carrying 40 persons on board, was located approximately 190 nautical miles northwest of Stanley, Falkland Islands. During anchoring operations, the vessel encountered heavy waves, resulting in one crew member falling overboard and being later found without signs of life, and three other crew members were injured. The occurrence did not result in any damage to the vessel or cause environmental pollution.
The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) classified the event as a major marine occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and referenced the Casualty Investigation Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned, and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
