The Initial Press Release of the Fire Occurrence involving TRC Train No.114 at Xinzuoying Station
On March 12, 2026, the Tze-Chiang Express Train No. 114 of Taiwan Railway Corporation, Ltd. (TRC) departed from Chaozhou Station in Pingtung County and was traveling northbound to Qidu Station in Keelung City. At approximately 08:21, when the train arrived at Xinzuoying Station in Kaohsiung City, TRC personnel discovered a fire at the second axle beneath Car No. 2 and extinguished it with a fire extinguisher. No casualties were reported in this occurrence.
Upon receiving notification of the occurrence, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) immediately dispatched three investigators to the site, together with personnel from the Railway Bureau, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), and TRC, to collect information in accordance with the procedures for investigating railway occurrences. This event was identified by the TTSB as a railway occurrence in accordance with the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. An official investigation has been launched and the investigation team will continue to collect relevant evidence.
