The Initial Press Release on the Collision Involving TRC Diesel-Electric Locomotive No. R203 During Shunting at Heren Station
At 08:45 on March 13, 2026, diesel-electric locomotive No. R203 of Taiwan Railway Corporation, Ltd. (TRC) collided with a freight train operated by Lucky Cement Corporation while performing shunting operations at Heren Station in Hualien County. The freight train was traveling on an adjacent track at the time of the occurrence. As a result of the collision, two cars of the freight train derailed. No casualties were reported in this occurrence.
Upon receiving notification of the occurrence, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) immediately dispatched three investigators to the site to collect information, in coordination with personnel from the Railway Bureau, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), and TRC, in accordance with the procedures for investigating railway occurrences. The TTSB classified this event as a railway occurrence in accordance with the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. An official investigation has been launched and the investigation team will continue to collect relevant evidence.
