The Initial Press Release on the Collision and Derailment Involving TRC Trainsets During Shunting at Qidu Shunting Yard
At 21:20 on March 30, 2026, at the Qidu Shunting Yard of Taiwan Railway Corporation, Ltd. (TRC), diesel-hydraulic locomotive No. DHL114, coupled with an EMU920 trainset, collided with an EMU912 trainset that was stationary on Track W10 while shunting into the same track. As a result of the collision, Cars 5, 6, and 10 of the EMU920 trainset, a total of three cars, derailed, and Car 1 of the EMU912 trainset also derailed. One person was injured in this occurrence.
Upon receiving notification of the occurrence, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) dispatched three investigators to the site to collect information in accordance with the procedures for investigating major railway occurrences. In view of several recent shunting occurrences involving TRC, the TTSB reviewed the evidence collected and found that TRC’s shunting operations may involve systemic risks. Accordingly, this occurrence has been incorporated into the ongoing investigation of the “collision involving TRC diesel-electric locomotive No. R203 and a freight train during shunting at Heren Station on March 13, 2026,” and the investigation team will continue to collect relevant evidence.
Further information and progress of the occurrence investigation will be published on the TTSB website.
