The Initial Press Release of Collision Between Container Ship Zeal Lumos and Container Ship Haian Opus at Kaohsiung Port
At approximately 1202 hours (local time) on April 01, 2026, the British-flagged container ship Zeal Lumos (IMO Number 9864241, gross tonnage 149525, length 365.97 meters, breadth 51.00 meters) collided with the Panamanian-flagged container ship Haian Opus (IMO Number 1019113, gross tonnage 18852, length 171.90 meters, breadth 28.40 meters) which was berthed at the wharf. The collision caused damage to some of the containers and deck facilities on the container ship Haian Opus. No casualties or environmental pollution were reported in this occurrence.
The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) classified the event as a major marine occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and referenced the Casualty Investigation Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned, and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
