The Initial Press Release of TRC’s Electric Locomotives E553 and E505 Collided while Shunting at Qidu Shunting Yard.
At 23:50 on 29 July 2026, a diesel-hydraulic locomotive DHL102 at Qidu Shunting Yard of Taiwan Railway Corporation (hereinafter referred to as TRC), coupled to passenger trainset and an electric locomotive E553, was pushing the trainset into Track W13 inside the maintenance workshop to couple with another electric locomotive E505 stabled on the same track. During the shunting movement, locomotives E553 and E505 collided, causing damage to equipment at the front of both locomotives. There were no casualties in this occurrence.
After receiving the notification, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) dispatched 4 investigators to TRC to collect evidence and relevant information. The TTSB identified this event as a railway occurrence following the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
