Mandarin Airlines Flight AE737 Fokker 50 , was hit by an MD-90 aircraft pushing back for repositioning to a newly assigned parking bay.
Description
In the evening of September 21, 2001, a Fokker 50 registration number B12272 operated by Mandarin Airlines was hit by an MD-90 aircraft pushing back for repositioning to a newly assigned parking bay. The incident occurred at 21:00 local time (13:00 UTC) when UNI Airways’ MD-90 was moving backward by a tow tug. The tug driver had to turn his head and looked over his shoulder to push the aircraft without noticing that there was another aircraft resting behind waiting for ATC clearance to taxi. The right wing of MD-90 near the wing tip collided with right wing lower skin of FK-50 on the flap assembly. Both aircrafts subjected to area damages. The occurrence was classified as “Serious Incident” according to ICAO Annex 13 Chapter 1. definitions and is under the investigation conducted by Aviation Safety Council of Taiwan, ROC.
