Far Eastern Air Transport flight FE-185, during landing, touch down at outside of the runway then veer into runway.

Description

At 1339 August 22 2007, Far Eastern Airline flight FE-185, A MD80s aircraft, registration number B-28021, with 2 pilots, 1 observer, 4 cabin attendants and 128 passengers on board, flew from Taipei to Magong. During landing, aircraft touch down at outside of the runway then veer into runway. Three runway lights were crashed. There had neither human injury nor the aircraft substantial damage.


Far Eastern Air Transport Flight Crew Report Sheet shows, At 1330, wind direction 180゜, wind speed 15 knots, in 1,000 ft high, pilot request tower for lightest runway lights, and set windshield wiper to FAST. In 500 ft high, start to rained but runway in sight. At this moment PM call out “aircraft veer to right”. During landing, aircraft flight path parallel to the runway center line, crab technic was applied. At 1339, just before touch down, aircraft speed 127 knots, PF applied right rudder control aircraft center line parallel to the runway. Left main gear touch down first then right main gear.


At 1530, 3 broken runway lights were found in Magong airport 1500 ft to 2000 ft away from runway 20 threshold. In same area, a MD tire marks were also found. Far Eastern Transport FE-185 was reported the caused flight. Meanwhile, the damaged tire was found on the aircraft. These phenomenons conform to the definition of occurrence of Aviation investigation law. Accordingly, Aviation Safety Council investigate the event.
