At 1702 on January 8, 2023, a small cargo ship named "Ocean Star No. 8", with official number 964986, sank by flooding about 16.65 miles northwest of Mudou Island, Penghu County. After that, 4 crews of Ocean Star No. 8 fell overboard and were rescued by the Coast Guard.
