JAL653 B767-300 6 June 2009 Investigation-Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) Responses to Safety Recommendations

Japan Airlines (JAL) Responses to Safety Recommendations

JAL response
Action: JAL revised the content of our training, including additions, in order to reflect this incident so that all cabin attendants may respond more appropriately.
1.Regular emergency evacuation training had included training of fire in the lavatory. In FY2009, we purchased portable smoke emitting devices which enabled us to emit smoke anywhere in the cabin.
We currently carry out practical fire exercise of fire from under the seat.

2.At classroom lessons during regular emergency evacuation training, we conduct case study on the topic  “fire when the source of the fire is not visible.”
We introduce cases of fire breaking out from behind the wall or under the floor, occurring at other airlines, and review the need to swiftly extinguish fire in the cabin.

3.We are conducting case study of JAL653 at regular Safety Training, and are asking cabin attendants to think about how to coordinate with each other, how to deal with passengers, how to communicate with flight crew, etc.
